Apogee Data Consulting - Mapping and Data Analysis

OS OpenData

What is OS OpenData?

"OS OpenData is the opening up of Ordnance Survey data as part of the drive to increase innovation, and support the government’s ‘Making Public Data Public’ initiative. The wider use of geographic information (GI) will support greater transparency and accountability within government and lead to better services for citizens. It will also enable businesses, communities and individuals to make greater use of GI, which will in turn benefit the UK economy."

Therefore a number of OS datasets are now available free of charge, please click here for more information.

As a licensed partner of Ordnance Survey, Apogee Data Consulting can add value to the basic data and combine it with other datasets for more indepth analysis.  Or Apogee can turn the basic data downloaded from the OS website into more manageable data.  For example:

  • Each layer in the Strategi data comes in two halves, North and South, Apogee can combine these into a GB layer.
  • The Code-Point data comes as a series of separate csv files for each postcode area.  Apogee can combine these into a single file if required.  (Note that the Code-Point data available through OS OpenData does not include Northern Ireland, a full licence of Code-Point is required to get the NI data.)
